At a glance
ChatGPT is a general-purpose AI assistant made by OpenAI. You can chat, write, code, search, generate images and talk by voice in one place. From October 7, 2026, the default chat model switched to the GPT-6 generation (GPT-6 Sol for paid plans, GPT-6 Luna for Free and Go), and in ChatGPT Work and Codex on desktop you can use higher-end models such as GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol. It suits a wide range of users, from students asking casual questions to professionals who use it for daily work and development, up to company-wide rollouts.

Which plan for whom
- Free: Enough for people who ask the occasional question or polish some writing, and for students trying it for the first time. Everyday chat is effectively unlimited.
- Go: For people who often hit the free limits but do not need advanced reasoning. At $8/mo, upload, image and voice limits become generous and you can handle long documents.
- Plus: The safest choice for office workers, graduate students and developers who use it for daily work. You can use GPT-6 (Sol) reasoning and GPT-6 Astra in Work/Codex.
- Pro 100: For professionals who work with ChatGPT/Codex all day, and researchers who need GPT-6 Pro for hard analysis. Start here if Plus limits often run short.
- Pro 200: For heavy users who use long voice chats or run several Codex agents.
- Pro 500: For developers, freelancers and small studios who must have Astra Ultrafast or who barely want to think about usage limits.
- Business (Standard): When a team of 2 or more wants business data protection and admin features. With annual billing it is $20 per person per month, similar to Plus.
- Business (Premium): Cost-efficient if assigned only to developers and analysts in the team who use it especially heavily.
- Enterprise / Edu: When companies with hundreds of people or more, or universities, need security compliance, SSO and bulk contracts.
