At a glance
TalkCloud is Kakao's paid storage that backs up KakaoTalk chats, photos, videos and files. On August 13, 2025 the name changed from "Tok Seorap Plus (톡서랍 플러스)" to "TalkCloud", and the new plans took effect on August 21. Even if you change phones, you can restore your chat history as it was, and you can delete backed-up media from your phone to free up space. However, it is closer to a KakaoTalk-only backup than to general-purpose storage such as Google Drive or MYBOX.
Plans
| Plan | Capacity | Price (web billing, monthly) | Basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30GB | 30GB | ₩2,100 | Outside source (needs verification) |
| 50GB | 50GB | ₩3,100 | Outside source (needs verification) |
| 200GB | 200GB | ₩5,100 | Outside source (needs verification) |
| 2TB | 2TB | ₩12,000 | Confirmed from the title of the official product page |
Namu Wiki lists web prices as 30GB ₩2,900, 50GB ₩3,900, 200GB ₩5,900 and 2TB ₩15,000. These may be app billing prices or prices that changed later, so they need to be checked on the official screen. App market billing costs more than web billing because of fees.
- The old Tok Seorap Plus plans (100GB ₩1,900, 250GB ₩3,900, 500GB ₩6,900, 1TB ₩8,900) are closed to new sign-ups and are kept only for existing subscribers.
- Some sources say yearly billing is cheaper, but we could not confirm the amount. (Needs verification)
- A Korean phone number is required to sign up.
Family sharing
- No family sharing plan has been confirmed. (Needs verification)
Photo backup
- Photos and videos exchanged in KakaoTalk chat rooms are backed up automatically.
- It does not automatically back up the whole phone gallery, and files on the device must be uploaded manually.
Platform support
- Used inside the KakaoTalk app on Android and iOS, and can also be viewed on the web (drive.kakao.com).
- There is no dedicated PC app or Linux app.
Security
- Kakao says it encrypts backup data, but public information on the details is lacking. (Needs verification)
- There is criticism that chat restore uses a 6-digit password, which is weak. (Outside source)
- Canceling may delete stored media, so you need to download it before canceling. (Outside source)
Pros
- It is effectively the only way to restore KakaoTalk chats and media records in full.
- It is built into KakaoTalk, so there is almost nothing to install or set up separately.
- With 2TB at ₩12,000 per month, its large-capacity price is competitive too.
Cons
- It has no PC app and weak file management, so it is hard to use in place of general cloud storage.
- No free plan and no family sharing.
- After the 2025 overhaul the cheapest plan became 30GB at ₩2,100, which costs more than before (100GB at ₩1,900).
Who each plan suits
- 30GB, 50GB: People who mainly keep chat history and do not exchange many photos
- 200GB: People who exchange many photos and videos in group chats or family chats
- 2TB: People who also exchange work files over KakaoTalk and must keep every record
- If the goal is to back up all phone photos, we recommend using Google Photos, iCloud or MYBOX alongside it.
Notes
- Information checked on: 2026-10-12
- We could not access the Kakao help center in this research environment, so prices other than 2TB are based on August 2025 press reports.
