At a glance
Papago is an AI translation service made by NAVER. It offers text, voice, photo, conversation, website and document translation for free, and is especially natural for Korean to foreign language translation. Free Papago is enough for travel, language study and everyday translation. If you need bulk document/image translation, glossaries and team sharing for work, use the paid subscription service "Papago Plus". Developers can add translation to their own services with NAVER Cloud's Papago Translation API.
Full model list
Instead of named models you choose, Papago offers a translation engine per feature. NAVER does not state the specific model name of the engine on its official pages (for example, whether HyperCLOVA X is used). It labels the free version only as the "basic translation engine" and Papago Plus as the "latest translation engine".

- Won (KRW) and dollar (USD) prices are separate charges (not conversions of each other). The official price comparison page appears to show different currencies depending on the region you access from, and when accessed from overseas only USD ($9.99 / $29.99 / $55.99, monthly billing) is confirmed. When accessed from Korea, the official won prices were reported as Basic ₩13,000 / Standard ₩40,000 / Advanced ₩75,000 (per month). Standard/Advanced match the September 2024 launch coverage, and Basic appears to have come down from ₩15,000 at launch. The won prices could not be confirmed directly in this check, so they need rechecking on the payment screen in Korea. Whether VAT is included is not shown on the official page.
Which plan to choose
- Papago (Free): General users who need photo translation of menus/signs while traveling, conversations with foreigners, and occasional document translation. The Korean translation quality is good, so it is enough for everyday use.
- Papago Plus Basic: Office workers/researchers who translate foreign-language contracts/papers/reports every month for work and need a secure environment where translation data is not stored.
- Papago Plus Standard: Overseas sales/marketing/localization teams where several people share a glossary to keep translation quality consistent.
- Papago Plus Advanced: Trade/e-commerce teams with heavy image/document translation volume (such as bulk translation of product detail images).
- Enterprise Pass: When an organization of more than 100 people adopts a translation tool company-wide.
- Papago Translation API: Developers who want to add Korean-centered translation to their own app/web.
