- How billing works
Compute is billed by usage in CU-hours. One CU is roughly 4GB of RAM with matching CPU. Source
Compute scales to zero after 5 minutes of inactivity. The free plan cannot change this, paid plans can turn it off, and computes above 16 CU stay always on. Source
Paid plans have no minimum monthly fee. You pay for the compute, storage and extra branches you use. Source

- High availability and backups
Instead of idle standbys, storage is spread across availability zones. If something fails, compute restarts in a few seconds to minutes, so your app must handle brief disconnections. Source
Instant restore (PITR) works only on root branches, not child branches. The pre-restore state is kept automatically as a backup branch. Source
- Data transfer out
Paid plans include 500GB of transfer per project, with a per-GB charge beyond that. Source
